!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! It’s on £1700, with 6 days left to go. You could argue the white shell’s worth that much, but it’s got almost nothing on it, and the price will keep going up. With the rate it’s going up at, I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up costing somebody more than I paid for my complete, running one

the red one is likely in the advert because that’s the one with the logbook when in reality the buyer of the white shell will transfer the red one’s logbook to the white one

I’ve seen it plenty of times with mk1&2 escorts, they just have a picture up of a completely rusted out shell that has no hope in hell of being restored just to sell the logbook for £3k+

Yeah, it is very popular with minis; the logbook for a early cooper like this is incredibly valuable, since you can put it on the much cheaper white donor shell, and even die hard mini experts won't be able to tell unless they really start looking. Even for normal minis, the documents are worth a lot, as they can be used to import newer cars into the US, wipe away any trace that a car was stolen, and in the UK, get free road tax (cars made before 1976 don't have to pay for it) all very illegal, and pretty frustrating

next year it’ll be 1977 cars and older on the free tax, I wonder if they’ll ever scrap that as they are going to start charging low emissions cars due to lack of money they are getting from the tax scheme

Not a clue actually. I think they'll wait for it to reach a nice round number (like 1980) then just stop increasing it. They'll be some sort of uproar if they drop it completely...

Hmm, here in California I have to pay registration etc. but on my old diesel Benz and my Datsun I am only exempt for the smog test. They have a stricter smog test for slightly older cars now called a star test or something. I had a 1994 Honda and they switched me to that, it passed before I sold it.

Yeah and now with Dynacorn making shells for Mustangs, Broncos etc... the VIN number is worth money to transfer to the new shell. There is a pile of crap heap of a Porsche for sale at the Beverly Hills Car Club just for the VIN.

It’s the same with minis; BMH (the uk equivalent to Dynacorn) makes shells for minis and some MGs. However, with minis being pretty inexpensive, most vins that get sold won’t be reshelled, and it’s more likely the more valuable paperwork ends up on a cheaper, or often stolen car instead. Although, if I had the money, I’d definitely consider getting a brand new mini shell
